Stand-Assist Grips
The Vanguard includes stand-assist gips that help residents to independently reposition themselves and transfer from a sit to stand position. This unique feature is not usually included in wheelchairs and reduces caregiver strain while promoting independence.
Optional Curved Back
Often, patients with gluteal shelves have a tendency to be pushed forward in the chair, which increases the risk of falls. The Vanguard takes bariatric ergonomics into account, by offering an optional concave back that accommodates a gluteal shelf.
Swing Away Removable Arms
Swing Away and Removable arms allow for easy side transfers and make it possible to pull up close to dining and activity tables.
Superior Support
A headrest, shoulder bolsters, upper and lower side pads, calf pad, seat, and back pad with cover are all standard Vanguard features. Removable upper lateral supports keep the patient's body aligned and in an upright position. The back height can be adjusted in increments of 32", 34", 36", 38", and 40". Other support features include height-adjustable armrests, a length-adjustable leg rest that elevates independently, and a flip-down single footrest. These design elements, together with Broda's Comfort Tension Seating Suspension System, cradles and conforms to the body, helping to support proper pelvic positioning and spinal alignment.
Comfort Tension Seating
Comfort Tension Seating uses a strapping system, that when weight is placed on, redistributes pressure and comfortably cradles the body. Ideal for accommodating spinal disorders such as kyphosis and lordosis, Comfort Tension Seating helps to properly align the spine by conforming to the resident's body. With the ability for air to flow through the strapping system, heat and moisture build-up are decreased. The seating base returns to its original shape when pressure is removed, which helps prevent bottoming out. Comfort Tension Seating encourages blood flow and tissue oxygenation. All of these elements help maintain skin integrity, leading to greater comfort and prevention of pressure wounds.
Allows for Frequent Positional Changes
The Vanguard includes a 10-degree anterior tilt function and a 320-degree posterior tilt function, as well as the ability to recline up to 45 degrees. The posterior tilt keeps the patient from slumping over. This positioning flexibility allows for frequent positional changes. Adjustments can be easily made with a manual foot pump that helps with safe patient handling, where fewer transfers are necessary. Posterior tilt keeps the patient from slumping over, improves digestion, respiratory functioning, and helps increase patient endurance. Frequent positional changes treat and prevent pressure wounds.
Easily Maneuverable
The Broda Vanguard Positioning Wheelchair (Bariatric) (985) can be easily maneuvered in narrow spaces with 6" front total lock casters and 8" multi-directional locking rear casters.
