The HydroAire Air Fluidized Therapy Bed from Aurora MFG is a state-of-the-art AFT bed designed to reduce pain and facilitate a better nights sleep. Air fluidization is achieved by blowing air across a board covered in small glass ceramic beads, causing them to react like a liquid. The HydroAire is composed of a large tub filled with these beads and dual blowers within the bed pedestals. Unlike other alternating-pressure surfaces that use air bladders with varying inflation levels, this fluidization bed allows patients to remain below 32 mmHg at the lowest interface pressure. For individuals with chronic pressure ulcers due to limited mobility, refractory pressure wounds, posterior skin flaps, burn wounds, and more, this reduction in pressure can make all the difference in their recovery.
The HydroAire AFT bed has a weight capacity of up to 300 pounds and is long enough to accommodate patients up to about 6 feet 5 inches tall, meaning it is suitable for a majority of patients. The dual-blower system ensures that if one blower fails due to power outage or other issue, the remaining blower can maintain fluidization on its own until the other blower can be serviced. Both the fluidization level and the temperature of the bed can be adjusted by the patient or caregiver; a lock-out feature allows caregivers to prevent patients from altering these parameters if necessary.
The GoreTex® top sheet accessory fits over the bed and helps reduce friction and shear, both of which can cause further pressure ulcers and impede the healing process. An air-bladder-style wedge pillow is available that can be inflated to 10, 15, 25, or 35 degrees of incline to suit the patients comfort level. Bedside rails are also available to help keep the patient safely within the bed throughout the night, reducing fall risk.
