Two-thirds of adults are affected by back pain at some point in their lives. After heart disease and cancer, back pain is the third most expensive disorder in terms of health care dollars spent.
Exos FORM II 637 Back Brace Features
The Exos FORM II 637 Back Brace provides a high degree of spinal support. Ideal for wearing as a postoperative support and for relieving pain caused by acute lower back pain, the Exos FORM II 637 Back Brace gives superior sagittal and coronal control and support from T9-Si. Different than any other brace on the market today, the Exos FORM II 637 Back Brace is adaptable, customizable, adjustable, and conformable for ideal patient fit. With improved comfort, patients will be able to wear the back brace longer.
V-STX Material
The posterior, anterior, and lordotic inserts are made with a patented, thermoformable material that allows for customization and ideal fit.
Diamond2 Grid
This uniquely designed brace is constructed to result in a more durable, longer-wearing brace.
Adjustable Belt Wings
Since the belt can be modified, a range of patient body structures can be fitted optimally.
Semi-Universal Sizing
Removable circumference tape makes accurate patient sizing easy.
Comfortcore Foam
The Exos FORM II 637 Back Brace forms to the patient's unique contours by adjusting instantly to individual movements.
BOA Closure System
Independent superior and inferior compression is made possible through an innovative closure system. To release or loosen the brace compression, pull out on the BOA knobs. To tighten the brace compression, push the BOA knobs in and turn.
Modular Design
A step-up and step-down design allows for single brace use through rehabilitation and recovery.
Sizing and Applying the Brace
1. Size the Brace: Measure circumference of the patient approximately 1 inch or 2.5 cm above the widest part of the hips. For patients whose circumferential measurements are between sizes, select the larger brace. Align the tip of the Velcro attachment on the rear panel section with the correct circumference indicated on the sizing tape. Then, remove the sizing tape.
2. Open the Brace: Loosen the brace by pulling out on both BOA knobs and pulling the rear panel section in opposite directions.
3. Apply the Brace: Apply the brace to the patient by centering the rigid front panel on the patient at the desired location. Have the patient insert his or her hand into the dawning mit pocket. Wrap the front panel belt wing section over the rigid front panel. The exos logo on the front panel should be facing upright and away from the patient. Remove the brace and apply the tall rear panel. Have the patient insert his or her hand into the dawning mit pocket. Wrap the front panel belt wing section over the rigid front panel. The glide track should be positioned in the middle of the waist groove. The panel may be adjusted by detaching and resecuring the hook sections vertically on the rear panel section as desired. The Exos FORM II 637 Back Brace is the same brace as the 631 but includes two extension side panels. The same application applies for both models.
4. Tighten the Brace: To tighten the brace, have the patient push in on both BOA knobs and turn the knobs. The left BOA knob controls the top half of the brace, and the right BOA knob controls the bottom half of the brace.
Brace Removal
Loosen the brace compression by pulling out on the BOA knobs. Detach the hook and loop connection on the belt wings and remove the brace.
Panel Molding the Front/Tall Rear Panel
To mold the front and/or tall rear panel, remove the foam lining and then heat the panel with either an exos heating device on the lowest setting or with a heat gun at 170 degrees Fahrenheit or 77 degrees Celsius until the panel is malleable. Shape the panel appropriately and let cool. The foam panel can then be reapplied.
Brace Adjustment / Trimming the Tall Rear Panel
To trim the tall rear panel, remove the foam liner and trim following the groove found on the top one-quarter of the brace. The foam piece can be trimmed similarly. The foam liner can then be reapplied.
Optional Bridge Wing
For patients whose circumferential measurement is between 60 and 70 inches (152 to 178 cm), use the optional Bridge Wing. Simply adhere the hook portion of the dawning mit section to the looped exterior of the bridge wing and apply the brace as instructed.
Petite Patients
For smaller patients, you can remove the dawning mit section entirely and adhere the rear panel section directly to the front panel wing.
Optimal Waist Fit
If there is a size differential between the patient's waist and hips or if the patient experiences post-surgical swelling followed by weight loss, the brace is designed with 2 detachable belt wings which can be easily repositioned to achieve optimal fit.
Optimal Brace Height
The brace can be adjusted for optimal fit if needed for patients with different torso lengths. To do so, lay the tall rear panel so the glide plates are facing up. Position the glide plates so that both plates are closest to the raised center section of the tall rear panel.
Post Surgical Relief
Post-surgical relief can be achieved by cutting around and removing the midline portion of the rear panel liner.
Belt Wing Trimming
Once the proper fit is confirmed, the excess material on the belt wings can be trimmed.
