The Neonatal Size Allyson Splint for Wrist and Hand Orthosis by McKie Splints is a specialized device engineered for infant use. Its design incorporates a semi-rigid splint with a removable stay, offering adaptable support for the forearm, wrist, and thumb. The extended coverage of these areas helps maintain stability and proper positioning. Available in three smaller sizes, the orthosis can accommodate infants of various ages and sizes. It comes in both left and right-handed models, each covering a significant portion of the forearm and wrist.
The splint also protects part of the palm, positioning the thumb and wrist to promote optimal alignment. A key feature is that all other fingers remain free, allowing for natural hand use and interaction. The orthosis is crafted from neoprene and nylon materials, which are lightweight, easy to clean, and smooth to the touch, enhancing comfort during wear. This design approach aims to provide support without impeding bone and muscle development. The gentle positioning of the thumb encourages typical muscle movement, potentially contributing to improved outcomes in various conditions affecting infants.
How to measure the thumb size |
Use A and B measurements to determine which size splint you should order.
1. Measurement A: Measure to the 1/10th of a centimeter the circumference of the far or distal thumb joint.
2. Measurement B: Measure to the 1/10th of a centimeter the distance on the palm from the distal thumb joint to the center of the wrist crease.
3. Measurement F (only used for custom splints): Measure from the distal thumb crease to the bottom of the web space.
