The Rolyan Functional Position Hand Splint is a device that helps to restrict movement of the injured hand and aid healing by providing immobilization, support, and stability.
The preformed, thermoplastic splint holds the hand in a natural, functional position in approximately 30 degrees of wrist extension, neutral deviation, 35 degrees of MCP flexion, and 20 degrees of PIP and DIP flexion. The thumb is comfortably and naturally placed in opposition and palmar abduction for the optimal healing position. Unlike plaster casts, a thermoplastic splint is lightweight and does not completely cover the hand, requiring straps or elastic for secure attachment.
The latex-free, thermoplastic construction enables the splint to be heated in warm water and once soft, the user's hand is placed onto the splint, and the soft thermoplastic can then be molded perfectly around the contours of the hand, providing an exceptionally secure and comfortable fit. The splint can be remolded and reshaped to accommodate the physical change of the healing hand, and it can be easily removed for periods of exercise or while bathing, although the splint can be worn while showering.
The preformed hand splint comes in either a left or right-handed designation, and in sizes of small, medium, or large. To determine the user's size, measure the width of the 2nd to the 5th metacarpophalangeal (MCP).
