The Rolyan Pre-formed Resting Pan Mitt Splint is a low-temperature thermoplastic splint that supports and protect the palm of an arthritic or a neurological impaired hand. It places the hand in a functional position, aiding in the maintenance of the palmar arches and the prevention of contractures.
The 1/8-inch, Polyform, hand shaped mitt splint comes in size choices of small, medium, and large, and in configurations for either the left or right hand. The thermoplastic, pre-formed, hand-shaped material can be heated up in hot water, placed under the patient's hand, and then formed and modified to provide a comfortable and rehabilitative, customized fit.
The latex-free mitt splint will usually provide the wrist and hand with a rehabilitative position generally in 10 degrees of wrist extension, 5 degrees of ulnar deviation, 45 degrees of MCP and PIP flexion, and 20 degrees of DIG flexion. The thumb is placed in a neutral 45-degree extension between palmar and radial abduction.
