The Pediatric Spring Loaded Goniometer Elbow Full Hand Combo Orthosis is only indicated for patients with non-fixed contractures (contracted joints that can still be flexed or extended). Elbow joint contractures are classified as follows:
5-30 degrees = mild contracture
30-90 degrees = moderate contracture
90 degrees plus = severe contracture
The Pediatric Spring Loaded Goniometer Elbow Full Hand Combo Orthosis has the following uses:
Graduated extension of the elbow, spastic clenched fingers, and wrist
Corrects and controls radial or ulnar deviation
Controls wrist-drop
Helps restrict arthritic changes and deformity related to neuromuscular impairment
Positions the flaccid hand and wrist
Maintains skin integrity by absorbing moisture, allowing air circulation and preventing skin maceration in elbow crease and on palmer surface
Allows for increased hygiene care by allowing skin and nail care and cleaning of palmer surface
Maintainance of functional position of the elbow, wrist, and hand
Control and decrease flexion synergy of involved upper extremity
Control unwanted motion of the elbow, wrist, and hand
The included terrycloth cover (teal for large splints, turquoise for medium, lavender for small) absorbs moisture and allows air to circulate, which prevents skin maceration and helps maintain skin integrity. Gaps between straps in the orthosis make it easier to care for the wearer's skin and nails.
Neither heat nor tools are required to adjust the Comfy Splints Elbow Full Hand Combo Orthosis. The whole frame is foam-lined to relieve pressure and prevent possible damage.
