This line of splints is designed for pediatric patients with conditions affecting their wrists and thumbs. Caretakers can use the splints in a variety of ways to address pain in different areas near the arm and hand. A versatile strap can be applied in more than one position, each addressing a particular region of the wrist and thumb.
The primary use of this splint is to extend the wrist and move the thumb into opposition. However, tightening the strap in specific locations can address hyperextension, muscle weakness, and hypermobility. This makes the brace a popular choice for both physical and cognitive disabilities.
Six sizes are available for pediatric patients. The braces come in popular colors, including royal blue, red, pink, black, and tan. The nylon and neoprene fabric is lightweight and thin, making it comfortable to wear. It also features a smooth interior that can improve patient compliance.
The Pediatric Size Allyson Splint for Wrist and Hand Orthosis by McKie Splints also provides some compression therapy. This may help patients with injuries heal faster and provide extra support around the impacted area.
Upgrade to several customizable features that can make the brace target specific injuries or tendencies. The thumb can be lengthened or shortened, and there is an option to widen the web space. In addition to the standard plastic stay, there are also plastic in make web stays and ulnar stays available.
How to measure the thumb size |
Use A and B measurements to determine which size splint you should order.
1. Measurement A: Measure to the 1/10th of a centimeter the circumference of the far or distal thumb joint.
2. Measurement B: Measure to the 1/10th of a centimeter the distance on the palm from the distal thumb joint to the center of the wrist crease.
3. Measurement F (only used for custom splints): Measure from the distal thumb crease to the bottom of the web space.
