Omega (tm) Plus Splinting Thermoplastic has maximum resistance to stretch and minimum drape, to allow for aggressive handling without losing its shape. It can be stretched and pulled around curves without thinning or growing out of control. This material is best for larger joints of the body needing firm support. Omega (tm) Plus Splinting Thermoplastic is ideal for splinting clients who are unable to cooperate due to spasticity or non-painful contractures. It has 100% memory, making it ideal for serial splinting. If a mistake is made in fitting, simply reheat the thermoplastic and start over. This makes Omega (tm) Plus good for infrequent or novice splinters. Maximum rigidity means upper and lower extremity splints will hold their position even against strong pressure or hypertonicity. A unique powder coating provides a slightly tacky surface when warm. A wet bond will hold firmly but can be pulled apart when cool. A permanent bond can be achieved with with minimum solvent and dry heat. The surface finish when dry provides maximum resistance to fingerprints and can tolerate aggressive handling. If pressure or wrappings are removed while Omega (tm) Plus is still warm, marks will disappear from the surface.
Omega (tm) Plus can be used for anti-spasticity splints, lower extremity positioning splints, shoulder abduction (airplane) splints, back supports and for serial static splinting. It sets up in three to four minutes at 160½ F (71½ C), saving time when splinting frightened or non-compliant patients. Omega (tm) Plus is latex free.
