It is constructed with a cell on cell design. The cells are 10in deep air cells that are designed to prevent the mattress from "bottoming out." This mattress is also equipped with power outage protection as a safety feature.

The digital pump that comes with this mattress system allows the user or caregiver to customize the mattress to the patient's safety needs and comfort. It will auto-return to an alternating pressure mode if the system is left on static mode for more than two hours at a time. The Med-Aire Plus Bariatric Alternating Pressure Mattress Replacement System comes standard with a 4-way stretch cover that is low sheer, vapor permeable, fluid resistant, quilted and zippered to provide the mattress with additional protection.

Each of the air bladders can be removed and replaced easily if necessary. These air bladders are 20 and 10 inches deep. The pillow function for this mattress maintains 3 of the air cells at the head of the bed in static mode so that the patient is more comfortable.

It has three diagnostic alarms that tell the user whether there is a problem with the mattress or the pump for more efficient servicing. It features a CPR valve that allows for rapid deflation and an EZ Lock/Quick Release Tubing Connector.
