The Allay GelFlex Foam Pressure Redistribution Mattress delivers an innovative solution to help reduce shearing forces and is ideal for individuals who would benefit from a mattress designed to address shearing forces when moving or changing positions in bed. The mattress also provides a cooling benefit from the Allay reactive GelFlex foam that helps to ensure proper pressure redistribution for the user and help minimize pressure point "hotspots" by providing a larger area of support to avoid overstressing small contact areas.
Addressing shear from the inside-out, the top surface layer of the Allay mattress is a premium surface for the client at risk of experiencing skin breakdown. It's designed with low friction material that separates two layers of alternative foam designed to absorb and dissipate shear forces, allowing the user to move within the bed without scraping across the bed sheet and producing skin tears or abscesses. The mattress provides the user with 360-degrees of movement with reduced shear in all directions, making this an ideal mattress for bed-ridden individuals or those at risk of experiencing skin breakdown.
The top layer of GelFlex is excellent for user immersion and the higher cut middle section will help improve immersion without compromising patient transfers. Better yet, this mattress comes with side bolsters complete with accordion cuts to provide an excellent transfer edge. The mattress also offers the cooling benefit of gel to help individuals with lymphatic issues that require cooling while sleeping or resting. The multi-zone design of this mattress helps to address pressure redistribution requirements at the head, torso, and feet. A raised bolster is added to the foot and head section portions to provide safe and proper egress for the user through the middle mattress section, directly minimizing user falls and/or attendant accidents. This mattress also comes equipped with a 5-way stretch incontinent cover that resists the absorption of fluids.
This innovative mattress meets or exceeds all restraint protocols as well as meets or exceeds best practice guidelines for the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) and the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP). In further clinical studies, a third party has validated Shear Reduction Technology's efficiency and as a result, the 5 Minds company was awarded the Colleges of Ontario Network of Industry Innovation Award in 2011.
