Treats Foot Drop
Foot drop is a condition that prevents lifting the front of the foot and results in dragging of the toes. This condition can be caused by nerve injury, brain or spinal disorders, or muscles disorders. The foot drop boot supports the lower leg, foot, ankle, and toes in correct alignment and prevents the toes from dragging across the floor. By eliminating pressure points while also maintaining flexibility, the AFO is comfortable to wear. A removable yet secure sole, which can be taken on and off, protects the bottom of the boot and ensures durability as well as safety when walking.
Treats Ankle Contractures
When muscles and tendons tighten as a result of conditions such as spastic cerebral palsy, the muscles, joints, and tendons in the foot, toes, and ankle lose elasticity which causes shortening and tightening in that region. This condition impedes movement and affects mobility. The Waffle FootHold® with Splint AFO and Secure Stick Sole supports the foot and places it in a correctly aligned position to prevent contractures. The ankle contracture boot can also be used to stretch the affected muscles and ligaments.
Treats Heel Ulcers
Since heels are covered with only a thin layer of skin and fat, they are particularly vulnerable to contracting pressure ulcers. This skin vulnerability, combined with pressure from the lower body applied through the heels while in a supine position, adds to the high incidences of pressure ulcers seen in the heel region. The Waffle FootHold® with Splint AFO and Secure Stick Sole offloads pressure and elevates the heel to maintain proper positioning.
