Product Overview:

EHOB's WAFFLE EconoCare Plus Overlay with Pump provides an economical solution for treating and preventing up to Stage IV pressure ulcers. Ideal for single, short term patient use in hospital environments, the overlay features a Waffle design that cradles the patient's body over an air chamber that evenly distributes pressure and prevents bottoming out.

To minimize heat and moisture build up, the hospital bed overlay has a breathable design that prevents skin breakdown. Oval shaped handwells make it possible to safely and easily reposition and transfer patients, and corner straps keep the overlay secured to the bed. An included M.A.D. (measured air delivery hand pump) ensures precise and easy inflation of the hospital bed overlay.

More Information

Patients are often placed on hard surfaces in healthcare facilities for several hours, which puts them at risk of developing skin integrity issues. The WAFFLE EconoCare Plus Overlay with Pump reduces the risk of developing skin integrity issues, providing pressure ulcer healing therapy for up to stage IV pressure ulcers. Made with a Flex-O-Seal design that provides durability and prevents air leaks from occurring, this single patient use hospital bed overlay is durable yet economically priced. The patient can be placed on top of the overlay in hospital emergency or room beds, as well as on transportation carts with a sheet placed atop the overlay.

By providing 3 dimensional, equalized weight distribution, pressure is redistributed so that body weight is not placed on susceptible areas. The overlay can be used on multiple surfaces and is easily portable, allowing the patient to take the Waffle overlay home at the end of the hospital stay.

Ideal Uses
The WAFFLE EconoCare Plus Hospital Bed Overlay with Pump is ideal for comfort and pain management if the patient is mobile and has no existing pressure ulcers. If the patient is bed or chair bound and has limited mobility, the overlay can play a vital role when used as part of a wound treatment plan. The overlay works well for treating existing pressure ulcers, including unstageable and deep tissue injuries.

Patients with the Following Risk Factor Should Use a Hospital Bed Overlay
½ Cognition
½ Mobilization and ambulation
½ Nutrition and hydration
½ Moisture and incontinence
½ General medical comorbidities
½ Existing pressure ulcers and deep tissue injuries

Facilitates Log Rolls, Transfers, and Mobilize of the Patient
Oval shaped handwells facilitate easy and safe moving of the patient by caregivers. To move the patient, simply remove the hospital bed overlay's corner straps. The caregiver can then reach over the patient and grasp the overlay's handwells. To move the patient, simply pull the overlay toward the caregiver and move the patient to the desired position. A pillow can be placed under the overlay and the patient's back to help secure the position. With the help of two caregivers, the patient can be moved to a sitting position by grasping the handwells simultaneously and raising the patient. From this position, the caregivers can continue rotating the patient to the side of the bed and help the patient stand or walk.

Waffle Overlay Hand Check Ensures Precise Pressure Redistribution
A hand check can be performed on each shift and when a patient is repositioned in the bed to ensure the overlay is inflated at an optimum level for pressure redistribution. These hand checks can be performed with the patient in a supine position with the head lying flat, in a supine position with the head slightly elevated, and in a side lying position.

To perform the hand check, simply slide the hand, palm side up, under the patient's buttocks. The hand should easily slide in and out. If the hand check is difficult and the patient's bottom can be felt touching the bed, add one or two strokes of air using the included hand pump. If the body can not be felt, air should be removed. The patient should be positioned on the mattress anytime an air adjustment is made, and should take place anytime the patient is repositioned.

Easy Inflation with Included Hand Pump
Because proper inflation is important, an included M.A.D (measured air delivery) hand pump that does not require electricity for use, ensures precise air chamber levels for maximum therapeutic benefits. The number of strokes needed for inflation are clearly marked on the hand pump and on the mattress next to the clear valve.

Air inflation levels should appear to fill only 60% of the overlay, as only 1/2" of air is needed for maximum support and protection. To inflate the overlay, simply unroll, and place the red and clear valves in an upward position at the foot of the bed. The straps can then be placed on each corner. The overlay can be inflated with or without the patient place on top. There are two air valves that close. The red valve should only be opened when rapid deflation, such as during CPR, is necessary.
