Saving Lives with Rescue Equipment
EMS professionals save lives every day. In order for them to do their jobs efficiently, they need the proper tools to allow them to perform at peak condition. Certainly out of the many tools of trade that are used at work every day, all over the world, these are some of the most important. There are many different types of stretchers used by hospitals and by EMS, depending on the specific needs of the situation.
Rescue stretchers, also known as litters or Stokes baskets, were created as a solution for rescue situations where space is limited or terrain is difficult to traverse. For example, a rescue stretcher might be used for rescue on the side of a mountain, in a dense forest, or in debris from a collapsed building. The patient will be strapped into the basket to keep them safe and secure while they are transported to safety. Rescue stretchers are often used in conjunction with a cervical collar and a spine board to immobilize and protect the neck and spine, preventing movement that may worsen any potential injuries to the neck or back.
With the patient secured in the stretcher, they can be transported safely by a variety of methods, whether carried by EMS workers, on a vehicle, or by helicopter.
Features of the Titan Series Rescue Stretcher
The Titan Series Rescue Stretcher is a highly adapted Stokes litter that has been designed with many helpful features that will assist EMS workers on the job. The larger one-inch top rail is built to fit perfectly in the hand, giving a better grip to workers carrying the basket. The rail is also reinforced at the ends to provide additional strength, which is especially important for lifting and lowering the basket.
The Titan Series Rescue Stretcher not only meets, but exceeds the standards created by the specifications of the US Military's MIL-L-37957A, which determines the strength requirements of litters and rescue baskets. The netting used in the stretcher is highly durable, long lasting Durathene (tm) Netting, replacing the inferior chicken wire style netting used in older rescue stretchers. The stretcher's back support is made of an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) that is extra strong, eliminating the potential for splinters from a wooden back support. The stretcher is also equipped with StratLoad attachment points for easy and secure clipping of lifting apparatus. The strength of the Titan Series Rescue Stretcher allows it to support a static load of up to 2,500 pounds.
The Titan Series Rescue Stretcher is available in four different models: one-piece or two-piece, and regular or tapered. The two-piece model can be broken down into two halves, which can be stored together so it takes up less space in storage or on the field. This allows the stretcher to carried more easily or to be packed in a rescue backpack. The tapered model has a slimmer foot end, proving a more compact overall shape to allow the stretcher to fit through narrow spaces for easier transport in tight quarters. The regular model has a standard shape but still features a compact design.
The many wonderful features of the Titan Series Rescue Stretcher make it an essential tool for rescue operations, so EMS workers can transport people to safety where they can receive treatment. With the proper tools such as this one, it is possible to save lives and prevent serious injuries, keeping people safe for better and longer lives.
