Product Overview:

Southpaw's Flying Trapeze is a horizontal gliding system for children with physical disabilities that provides a fun way to help develop motor function. Ideal for enhancing motor planning, motion tolerance, and flexion, this swing allows for a variety of activities. The height and angle of the rigging can be adjusted to change the speed of the glider and different seats can be swapped out. The Flying Trapeze requires only two ceiling suspension points, making it easier to install than many swings.
Notice: This unique custom fabricated item is made-to-order using a "Just in Time" manufacturing process. This is designed to keep your cost lower, but may require an additional delay due to global shortages: up to a 6-8 Week lead time before your product ships.

More Information

Flexion Patterns
The Flying Trapeze can be adjusted in height to accommodate a variety of therapeutic needs. Clients can be positioned so that their feet touch the floor or with their feet off of the floor. As the swing moves down the angled track, the ankles, knees, hips, and trunk joints can be used to help properly move the client. This proprioceptive activity teaches how the joints can be flexed and extended to accommodate movement.

Motor Planning
Motor planning involves the ability for the client to plan, organize, and carry out a sequence of events. With the Flying Trapeze, non-learned movements can be practiced and carried out, which helps with the automatic performance of physical tasks in the future.

Vestibular Stimulation
The vestibular system, also referred to as the inner ear system, helps to maintain balance. Those who have a dysfunctional vestibular system may experience symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo, hearing and vision problems, and difficulty concentrating or remembering information. The Flying Trapeze is a therapy swing that exposes clients to vestibular stimuli. Depending on the client's tolerance to movement, the therapist can adjust the swing in height and angle. This stimulus helps balance the vestibular system, helping to regulate and either focus or relax the client.

How the Flying Trapeze Works
The Flying Trapeze hangs from the ceiling at 2 points, positioned 8' to 12' apart, and does not require wall-mounted suspension points. A track allows the swing trolley to glide freely from one end to the other. The upper rigging can be configured with four height adjustment options that allow the track angle to be adjusted. Therapists can have the client sit in a variety of configurations. For instance, the client's feet can be touching the floor, or the client can be placed in a prone position with the track placed at an angle that allows for pulling hand-over-hand up a rope. This heavy work pattern benefits those with sensory processing disorders to use energy in order to produce a feeling of calmness or focus. The track also keeps the swing mechanism from swaying. A padded sling seat is included with the Flying Trapeze but can be swapped for other swing styles.
