The Modified Platform Therapy Swing is made with a square-shaped flat base, or platform. By adding Southpaw's Rotational Safety Device, the vestibular therapy swing incorporates more rigorous, 360 degree vestibular stimulation that helps balance the client, both physically and emotionally.
By using the platform in a supine, Superman stance on the belly with the arms reaching out and the legs stretching back, posture can be improved. Incorporating objects with the therapeutic swing helps improve eye-hand coordination. For instance, a basket of bean bags can be placed on the floor in front of the swing.
While lying in a prone position, clients can pick up the bean bags and throw them at a target. To work on balance and postural reactions, the client can be positioned on their knees or standing during swing activities. This forces the client to hold their balance, despite instability. These postural exercises helps increase safety when the client is at risk of falling during everyday activities.
