The Expedition Series Upright Handcycle lets children with disabilities and special needs enjoy the freedom of movement that comes with cycling, providing a number of therapeutic and social benefits. Made to accommodate those with simple balance problems to more involved cases of cerebral palsy, spina bifida, down syndrome, TBI, muscular dystrophy, or autism, this special needs tricycle provides a fun and safe way to be active and enjoy the outdoors.
This cycle is easy to get on and off with locking brakes that allow safe transfers. Narrow designs are available to make the cycle versatile and ideal for use in indoor environments where doorways can be obstacles. Made for children ages 7 to 14 years old, this handcycle can be adjusted to grow with the child, or to accommodate a range of children in a therapeutic setting.
This trike is equipped with a high back that provides greater safety allowing even children who cannot sit by themselves to actually sit on the cycle and be safe on their own. The clean and professional looking frame supports both an upright and recline position for better accommodation and comfort. The handlebars are uniquely designed to swiftly fold down and out of the way to allow for easy mounting and transfer.
The optional rear steering system allows the caregiver to steer, or brake from the rear of the mobility device. Once the rider becomes more comfortable with reciprocal movement, adjustments can be made allowing the rider to control or assist with the navigation of the bike. Rear steering assists with increasing self pedaling, and therefore increasing motivation. It also increases safety. Rear steering supports behavior management and assists in vision perception. This assistance device gives riders a sense of orientation. The variable height adjustment on the Adjustable jogging extension gives an extra distance between the bike and the caregiver. Use the safety strap when jogging for added control.
Like Freedom Concepts other F3 bikes, the Expedition Series Upright Handcycle comes in a wide variety of colors and can be customized with multiple adjustable components to accommodate different riders of all abilities.
