The Comfort Cool Thumb Spica Orthosis is an orthopedic splint that immobilizes the thumb and wrist while allowing the fingers to move freely. Used as support for thumb injuries that cause ligament instability or muscle sprains, such as osteoarthritis, gamekeeper's thumb, de quervain syndrome, scaphoid fractures, thumb sprains, post operative use, and post-removal of hand and thumb casting, the splint provides lightweight support and compression.
The Comfort Cool Thumb Spica Orthosis, which fits on both the right and left hands, provides a customized fit with a moldable thermoplastic stay. Made of perforated neoprene, the breathable orthopedic splint can be trimmed and customized easily in order to accommodate the shape and size of the hand. The splint's inside features a soft, terrycloth liner that feels good against the skin.
Sizing
Choose from 3 different lengths, including short, mid, and long lengths that offer varying amounts of support. Each style is available in two different sizes: Small/Medium and Large/X-Large. To size, measure the wrist circumference.
- Short and Mid Length:Treats thumb CMC and MP arthritis, ligament injuries, MP fusion, tendinitis, and joint fractures.
- Long Length: Treats de Quervains, tenosynovitis, arthritis, wrist and wrist and thumb tendinitis, joint fractures, and CMC joint arthroplasty
Accommodating the Interphalangeal (IP) Joint Extension
A specialized thumb strap stabilizes the IP extension. It can also be trimmed below the thumb tip to below the IP joint for thumb IP motion.
Omega Max Thermoplastic Insert
An included 3/32" Omega Max removable thermoplastic insert helps provide custom support. This accessory restricts movement of the wrist and thumb joints and can be trimmed. A pocket helps pad the stay for a comfortable fee against the skin.
Thermoplastic Insert Fitting
Simply heat the thermoplastic insert in warm water and mold, then place it in the inside pocket. The insert can also be microwaved while it is in the splint, then molded directly on the patient where needed.
