More Information

Comfortable, total-contact reinforced mesh pelvic component based on the popular California Compression Orthosis supports the back and aligns pelvis and hip joint. Universal pelvic, thigh and hip joint components reduce inventory and make stocking all sizes more cost-efficient. Hip joint settings provide a strong flexion/extension stop with mild, adjustable resistance to adduction. Comfortable mesh thigh component. Patient-adjustable compression to increase comfort during activities of daily living. Abduction wedge regulates the clearance of the hip joint over the trochanter and incision site. Lightweight, low profile components are easier to wear under clothing to facilitate patient compliance and wearing time.

California Hip Orthosis Clinical Indications:
  • Post-op revision patients who have undergone a surgical procedure and need an orthosis until the component is integrated and soft tissue heals
  • Adult patients with CVA, spinal cord injuries or head trauma can benefit from the California Hip with bilateral thigh cuffs to widen the base of support in standing and sitting
  • Patients who have been non-compliant with rigid plastic hip orthosis
  • Patients whose cognitive function impairs their ability to follow hip precautions
  • Patients with weak hip abductors who need a kinesthetic cue and positioning to prevent dislocation
  • Elderly patients confined to bed who are at risk for dislocation

    California Hip Orthosis Contraindications:
  • Severely unstable hips that need significant control of adduction may require a more restrictive orthosis, e.g. Newport 3 or Newport 4
  • Patients with two or more previous dislocations may benefit more from a rigid plastic Newport® hip system
  • Hip replacement patients with poor alignment of the pelvis/acetabulum
  • Patients requiring a KAFO attachment may need a more rigid pelvic band to enhance control of internal/external rotation and adduction/abduction

    Nightmare!
As I was leaving the hospital post left hip replacement a serviceman rushed in, stated my doctor ordered this brace for me. He didn't measure anything just unwrapped it, slapped it on me and rushed out. He could not tell me when to wear it, how often or where. Told me to called the doctor. This was Friday night. Seriously? I was miserable for 2 days until I finally had to remove it. It chaffed, pinched and ruined a chair and clothing. This can't be beneficial....

    post op multiple hip surgeries
very uncomfortable, like wearing a mid-century corset or chastity belt. continually sliding out of place, very difficult to eat while wearing as limits stomach capacity, also the Velcro ruins your clothes. Ive had to wear all year due to multiple surgeries to treat a hip infection due to a femur fracture to remove the Depuy hip device and subsequent hip spacer placements. What a total nightmare.

Reviewer's Background: I am the Person using the Product

This brace is doing what it was intended, immobilizing my hip. I used the measuring guide to order the size, but it is big. My husband cut down the plastic on the leg piece and that is better. Just wish I had the smaller size.
