Provides Vestibular Stimulation
Whether hung from the ceiling from one or two points, the 3-in-1 Barrel Swing can be manipulated to move in a swaying, rotational, or linear movement that affects the inner ear, where the vestibular system interprets movement. This form of sensory stimulation is necessary in order for vision and posture to develop properly. The vestibular system and the proprioceptive system, located throughout the body, work together to determine body dynamics. For children with Sensory Processing Disorder, exposure to sensory stimulation helps integrate the senses, resulting in fewer meltdowns, more focus, and more coordination.
Provides Endless Activity Choices
Southpaw's 3-in-1 Versatile Barrel Swings can be used in many different ways to accommodate a variety of therapeutic exercises. By placing the barrel on the floor without any ceiling suspension systems attached, children can push the barrel around, using their own body weight. This weight bearing activity builds upper body strength and helps the client feel their muscles and joints in relation to strength. Whether used as a swing, floor barrel, or by taking away the barrel altogether and using the suspension system as a trapeze bar, developmental skills, including flexion/extension, balance, pushing/pulling, and climbing activities can all be worked on.
