Benefits of Teak Wood
The wood for the Teak Mat is harvested from the heartwood of the Teak tree. This area of the tree provides the hardest wood but also bright and rich colors and interesting grain patterns. Silica is brought into the roots of the tree from the sandy soil and creates an organic anti-slip surface. The Teak Mat is sanded and incredibly smooth to the touch. These elements make the mat particularly useful for wet and potentially slippery environments like the shower.
The Teak heartwood also provides an oil that gives the wood shine without the use of tarnishes. This oil also makes the wood resistant to water, preventing damage from rot and decay, but also guards against bacteria, mildew, and mold.
Because the Teak Mat comes from natural trees, color variation does occur.
Maintenance
Due to all the wonderful natural qualities, Teak wood is easy to maintain, though use in areas like outdoors or showers could result in dirt or soap build-up. To fix this, use a soft-bristled brush, water, and gentle soap mixture. Brush, wash, rinse, and allow to air dry to restore beautiful color and shine.
