SOT stands for Smart Orthotic Treatment because that's exactly what this resting hand splint accomplishes. Its state-of-the-art design helps users maintain or increase hand mobility. The brace's aluminum core can be adjusted in order to find the most comfortable resting position for the hand. This position provides invaluable pain relief, helps relax the hand, and keeps the hand in an ergonomic position. The resting hand position also helps prevent flexor shortening in the wrist and fingers. Rehabilitating the hand with an SOT Resting Orthosis helps improve not only overall mobility but gripping abilities as well. Machine washable, the SOT arrives in a resting position, and slides easily under clothing.

Treats Spasticity in the Hand
Caused by dysfunctioning signals sent from the central nervous system to the muscles, hand spasticity is characterized by pain, stiff muscles in the hand, and involuntary movements that can not be controlled. Seen in those with cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and stroke patients, treatment consists of medication, occupational and physical therapy, and the use of a brace, such as the SOT Resting Hand Splint Orthosis.
Treats Paretic Hand
Hand paresis occurs when there is partial loss of voluntary movement or movement is impaired. For instance, a common side effect of a stroke is that one side of the body becomes paralyzed or weak because only one side of the brain has been damaged. A hand brace, such as the SOT Resting Hand Splint Orthosis can be used in cases of paretic hand to help keep the joints aligned, support weak muscles, as well as prevent hand contractures.
Reduces the Risk of Edema
Hand, arm, and finger straps that are commonly found on hand braces can cause edema. In order to prevent edema, the SOT does not use straps in its design. Instead, a soft elastic cover that distributes pressure evenly while keeping the hand and arm immobilized encourages venous return.
Prevents Pain
The SOT's resting position places the hand in a biomechanically correct position, which helps alleviate pain. This pain relief works particularly well for Rheumatoid Arthritis sufferers by preventing the hand from falling into positions that cause pain. Because the orthosis is adjustable, it can be positioned into a POSI or Intrinsic Plus position as well.
Prevents Spasticity and Paralysis
Before signs of spasticity and paralysis appear, orthotic treatment with the SOT should start immediately to prevent a loss in mobility. Wearing the orthotic hand brace helps keep the hands and fingers straightened to prevent contractures from developing.
Can be Adjusted to Maintain or Increase Elongation of Long Flexors
The SOT adjusts so that elongation of the long flexors can be maintained or increased. By simply adjusting the wrist and finger area, the flexor stretch can be adjusted.
How to Size
To size, measure MCP width, as well as the length from the wrist to the end of the finger.
SOT Accessories
Extra Wrist Bands, Finger Dividers, and Wedges can be purchased separately from the SOT Resting Hand Splint Orthosis. The Finger Divider prevents skin irritation between the fingers and supports better positioning at the ulnar/radial deviation in the fingers. Use the SOT Wedges to change the degree of stretching gradually.
