Product Overview:

Mobility, coordination, and memory exercises are extremely important aspects of rehabilitation especially after a trauma event such as a stroke. The Rolyan Climbing Peg Board and Bar is a tool that targets all three categories with a simple, easy-to-use design. Under direction of a health care provider, the patient climbs a aluminum bar with padded grips up the pegs mounted on the side of the frame, targeting hand-eye coordination and upper-body mobility. Core strength is especially targeted in the reach-and-pivot action required for this exercise. Using the separately sold accessory kit, the patient can also be asked to loop string around the pegs in a specified sequence to work mental cognition, spatial reasoning, and balance and coordination skills.

More Information

Stroke patients tend to suffer from short-term memory loss, reduced hand-eye coordination, and partial loss of field of vision (hemianopsia). These patients can only return to normal life if they practice rebuilding the nervous and musculature system link that was lost during the stroke. The Rolyan Climbing Peg Board and Bar is the perfect tool to practice coordination and memory by asking the patient to reach, twist, follow sequences, and practice compound movements.

To use this simple tool, mount its aluminum frame to a wall or tabletop so that your patient can reach through a full range of motion. You can permanently screw the frame to the surface, or temporarily immobilize the frame using C-clamps or vises. Seven pairs of rubber-tipped aluminum pegs sit four inches apart in front of the patient. Ask the patient to climb the bar up the wall from a seated or standing position to work bilateral movements and coordination in both fields of vision. If you buy the accessory pack, sold separately, you are also provided with a paper backing and colored number tabs that will help you build sequences for your patient to follow. Simple commands, such as loop this string around numbers 1-7, will exercise your patients' memory, task-execution centers in the brain, and strengthen their upper body as they reach across the board to your instructions. This tool is made for health care professionals during physical therapy sessions.
