More Information

The Jamar Stereognosis Kit is a medical evaluation tool for a medical professional to help evaluate and diagnose stereognosis, also known as tactile gnosis or haptic perception, to determine whether or not the parietal lobe of the patient's brain is intact.

The kit includes 17 common items that are frequently encountered to place in the patient's hands, without any visual clues, for the patient to handle and touch. When a person handles an object, tactile signals such as size, texture, and shape are sent to the brain which then identifies the object by feel alone. Some examples of the items in the kit include dice, a pencil, a paper clip, a rubber band, a house key, nut and bolt, a comb, coins, a pen, and other items.

Also included in the kit are 3-inch by 5-inch matching cards that can easily be held by both adults and children. The card features a drawing of one of the 17 items on one side of the card with its name in both English and Spanish. The other side of the cards shows the test evaluator the name of the item. The cards are laminated to prevent wear and tear from frequent use.

All of the items and cards fit securely in a carrying case, providing an ideal storage place as well as functioning as a portable evaluation kit for home visits.
