Product Overview:

The Halo Helmet gets its name from the halo-like way that it encircles the head, with an open top for maximum ventilation. It is an excellent option for those who do not need full-head coverage. Comfort and safety are the top concerns when choosing a special needs helmet, and the Halo Helmet offers both. It is very important to refer to the Sizing Chart in order to obtain the correct size and proper fit before choosing which helmet size to order.

More Information

The Halo Helmet is ideal for individuals who do not need full head coverage. The open top is very cool. A band of 5/8" foam surrounds the head at the forehead level. It extends down on to the temporal area on each side of the head and on the occipital area at the back. The top of the Halo Helmet has adjustable crisscross straps to help stabilize the helmet on the head. The chin strap is 3/4" woven polypropylene with snap closures on either side for easy size adjustment. The Halo Helmet is latex free.

A set of 4 Cush-In-Pads are included with every helmet for more individualized sizing adjustments, if needed. If a child's circumference range is "in-between" sizing, see Optional Liner Cushions found above.

Sizing:
Since proper fit is important for the comfort of the person wearing headgear, measurements should be determined by professional personnel.

Measure the head circumference at eyebrow level. Occipital measurement is taken from eyebrow level to the back of the head at the point that the helmet is to end. Over the top of the head to top of ears.

Headgear Selection
Some considerations to use in helping to determine what type of helmet would be suitable for your client.
  • degree of physical activity
  • potential striking surfaces (floor, walls, furniture, etc.)
  • nature of self abusiveness
  • severity & frequency of seizures or spasticity
  • length of time worn

Important: While we believe that headgear can substantially reduce the risk of head injury, we emphasize that there is no known device for preventing all injuries. Only you, the customer, are in a position to evaluate the particular needs of the individual client in each environment. It is essential that professional and medical expertise be utilized in rendering decisions regarding headgear use.

Sizing:

Measure the head circumference (A) at eyebrow level. Occipital measurement (B) is taken from eyebrow level to the back of the head at the point that the helmet is to end. Over the top of the Head (C) to top of ears.

The finish comes off quickly and the company was no help in addressing this. They offered to redip it at nearly the price of a new helmet.

This helmet fits well a is amazing for what my son needs. However the finish came off VERY quickly and all the company would do is "re-dip it" at nearly the same
Cost as a new helmet. Very disappointing response.

I get a little during the summer, but we have learned to adapt.
This is our 2nd Halo.

Unfortunately the person who should be wearing this rarely puts it on. We dont have much control over that. The one piece of feedback I have though is that this person wears glasses. Little did I know that wearing glasses and wearing the helmet does not seem to be an option. The ear/side pieces keep shifting her eye glasses up her nose or down her nose, etc. Also, the ear pieces push her glasses into her temples which can be very painful. We have cut the ear pieces and therefore the front strap off, which is very unfortunate.
