The flexible protectors are sewn into the hat to provide protection without looking like a helmet. Hardshell protection devices can break upon impact, causing potential injury. When impacted, the Lenny's special protectors bend and redistribute the force, then reform to protect the head. The protectors are flexible enough that the hat can be folded and bent without risking damaging the protectors or structure of the hat.
