The Excilon AMD Antimicrobial I.V. Sponge provides healthcare facilities a low cost, preventative method of treatment without the need to implement nursing protocol changes. Because this antimicrobial dressing is suffused with PHMB (Polyhexamethylene Biguanide), this highly effective antiseptic helps resist both gram positive and gram negative bacterial colonization within the wound and in the dressing itself.
Cross-contamination is further avoided with its high rate of efficacy against outside bacterial penetration and strike-throughs, which also lowers the risk of hospital acquired infections.
Commonly found in contact lens solutions and household cleaners, PHMB is a gentle yet highly effective antiseptic. This chemical annihilates the cell wall of harmful microorganisms, making resistance highly unlikely. Because of this action, it is found to be highly efficacious against microbes that are mult-drug resistant, including VRE and MRSA.
The Excilon AMD Antimicrobial I.V. Sponge has been shown in clinical studies to have no negative impact to epithelialization, and actually demonstrates itself as an aid to helping encourage and maintain native skin flora levels.
