More Information

Importance of Curb and Ramp Training
Curb and ramp training on wheelchairs allows patrons who use wheelchairs or who need assistance with mobility to transition between streets and sidewalks and to move up and down ramps. Although Title II of the ADA requires that curb ramps be implemented at existing facilities and for new construction, it still takes practice to move up and down ramps and to cross over curbs.

Curbs serve as a cue for blind and low vision pedestrians but they end up becoming barriers for those who use wheelchairs. A curb ramp removes the barrier for wheelchairs. It's important to practice crossing ramps and curbs, as they both exist in a wheelchair user's daily landscape. Conditions such as abrupt changes of concrete grade make curb ramps difficult to use, causing wheelchair users to flip over if they familiar with proper procedures for crossing such terrains.

Importance of Practicing on the Curb and Ramp Training Stairs
Therapists can use the Curb and Ramp Training Stairs to teach important safety skills. For instance, the wheelchair's anti-tippers need to be placed down before ascending a ramp because the wheelchair may tip backwards if the ramp is steep. Backpacks and other cargo on wheelchairs may cause tipping as well. Important skills and knowledge can be shared in a hands-on way using the indoor demonstration ramp and curbs.

Curb and Ramp Training Stairs Features
The natural wood finish 4-piece Curb and Ramp Training Stairs are designed for wheelchair mobility training. With a maximum static load capacity of 300 lbs., both the wheelchair and user can be safely accommodated. The set includes three curbs with pull handles that can be conveniently stored under the ramp platform to save space. Safety treads provide an anti-slip surface.
