The Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) is the official tourniquet of the U.S. Army; the U.S. Army’s Institute of Surgical Research confirmed the C-A-T occludes 100% of blood flow to both upper and lower extremities in the event of significant hemorrhage. The new Single Routing Buckle requires fewer windlass turns and enhances slack removal for faster application and simplified training.
The secret behind the C-A-T’s effectiveness lies in its truly single-handed application and durable, reinforced windlass system and stabilization plate. The patented, free-moving internal band creates true circumferential pressure for optimal blood flow occluding. The bilateral windlass clip and bilateral buttress allow for rapid windlass locking and enhance the strength of the tourniquet.
Once tightened sufficiently, the windlass locks in place and pressure is maintained via a hook-and-loop retention strap, both of which require minimal use of the fine motor skills that can easily become compromised in emergency situations. This simple system that does not rely on screws and clips for tightening and features North American Rescue’s signature Red Tip Technology®, makes application as easy and straightforward as possible to counteract the effects of survival stress.
