Did you know that on an average day a human being, like you and me, produces up to 100 watts of electricity? A cyclist can produce even more during a race, some even hitting levels as high as 1100 watts per hour!
Now what if you could use that energy? You’ll never be able to capture all the energy you produce, sadly, that’s just not how electricity works, but even a bit of power can make a difference. Using even a bit of your own power to charge the things you use in your daily life can not only be good for the environment, but can alleviate some pressure from your wallet, and you can do it all while improving your own health!
Eco-Powr is committed to helping you turn your sweat into electricity, and we’re here to give you a run down on the how!
Eco-Powr is a brand of exercise equipment, produced by SportsArt, committed to reducing their impact on the environment while providing interesting and innovative workout solutions. They do so by producing equipment that takes power generated by your workout and using it to supply the power grid!

Now how do they use the energy you generate? Well, when an Eco-Powr machine is plugged into an outlet, the power cord is pulling double duty, bringing electricity in as needed, but pushing electricity back out whenever generated. This means if you’re not pedaling enough to make up for what the machine needs, you’re still saving some power regardless. Then, when your workout gets really intense, you’ll output enough electricity to feed the grid.
This reduces your environmental footprint, and if done enough times, or with enough machines, can reduce your overall power bill.

The G660 Treadmill Elite ECO-POWR is the treadmill on offer in the Eco-Powr line, and is unique even in the line for being a completely electricity free option. Any power used by this treadmill is generated entirely by the user, making it a great example of the kinds of things you can get out of Human Power.
Using power from your own motion, the G660 can monitor distance traveled, speed, and total power generated, all the while feeding your grid every watt you output.

Also called sustainable fitness equipment, this concept comes from the avoidance of natural resources in an attempt to maintain a balance in the environment. Now that may seem like a difficult concept at first, but it’s basically just saying “Only take out what you can put in.” You know the old tried and true “leave a penny, take a penny” tins at small shops? Well the idea is similar, but just applied to the environment.
When applied to exercise equipment, “green” or “sustainable” versions mostly try to reduce their electrical use and reduce their environmental footprint. Eco-Powr does this primarily through their electricity generation, but they also do it by using less heavy metals and using biodegradable components wherever they’re able.

As the world develops, more and more people are becoming socially conscious, especially of things like their own health and their impact on the environment. With pollution on the rise and reports every day of the challenges of climate change, it isn’t surprising that some people want to try and help however they can.
Green exercise equipment hasn’t quite hit the magazine covers or gone viral on social media, but it’s becoming more prevalent by the day, especially as the technology becomes more accessible and efficient. The first “Human Powered” fitness facility was opened in Sacramento, California. Going by the name of “Sacramento Eco Fitness”, it is packed full of devices that generate power purely from the efforts of their patrons, and what brand of device do they use? That’s right, it’s full to the brim with Eco-Powr equipment.

Now why would you want to purchase an Eco-Powr device rather than a typical treadmill or elliptical? They cost more, they’re functionally the same, and will it make a difference?
Well, if you’re concerned about cost then worry not, because the Eco-Powr line can make up the difference between its products and competitors with two words: Power Bills. You might pay more upfront, but over the lifetime of your device you’ll save on monthly spending.
But it’s just a treadmill? Well yes, it is a treadmill, but if you’re looking for a treadmill, why not take the initiative to find one that’s sustainable? Plus, on top of helping the environment, you’ll be reducing your own power bills. (see above)
Will it make a difference? Well, let’s be honest, you aren’t going to become Captain Planet by running on a treadmill. We won’t replace all of the world’s power needs and turn it into a green utopia just by swapping out our gym equipment. But nothing worth doing is ever easy, and every bit helps, so why not start here?
