Designed with a feminine touch, women’s braille watches are portable and wearable timepieces to help blind or low vision users to tell time.
What is a Braille Watch?
Beloved by blind and low vision users everywhere, braille watches are among the most popular and useful assistive devices that a sight-impaired individual uses every day. They can help enhance freedom and independence for anyone with poor eyesight or blindness, as they afford these individuals the ability to tell time and to keep track of time without having to ask someone else.
Available in an assortment of designs and styles, both digital and analog versions of braille watches can be used, dependent upon personal preference. Digital versions feature tactile dots (similar to Braille script) that constantly change position as the time changes. Analog versions highlight clock hands that are not susceptible to the movement or touch from a finger, so that the blind or sight-impaired user can touch them to know what time it is from their positions on the clock face, and/or from their raised dots. Analog braille watches also have a protective cover or lid that can be flipped up when in use, and flipped down when not in use, to ensure the integrity and position of the watch hands.
Women’s braille watches have an appearance similar to any other watches on the market today. Blind or visually impaired women can choose various colors, gold plating, leather bands, and many other stylish or elegant features for their braille watch. They are designed to be highly durable, and covered models also help to prevent catching analog watch face hands on clothing or other materials. Some models offer expansion straps for larger sized wrists, while others have adjustable bands. Most styles are battery powered so the user doesn’t have to remember to wind them.
All braille watches offer a pre-formatted dot system to correspond with the numbers, and for the hour, half hour and quarter hour. Because they also offer a regular watch face and hands, sighted users or those without any vision problems can also use these stylishly durable watches with ease.
