What are Patient Lifts?
Patient lifts are invaluable devices that enable caregivers to move patients with limited mobility from the bed to a chair, to the bath or shower or from any location to another, with less strain on both the patient and the caregiver.
Lifts can be affixed to the ceiling, attached to a stationary transverse support or can be rolled into place under the bed or chair and positioned so its legs provide a wide base of support. The lift’s raising arms are attached to the edges of a variety of different types of carrying slings to support the patient.
Lifts raise the patient up and lower them using hydraulics powered from electricity, batteries or manual power.
Who can Benefit from Lift Accessories?
All patients can benefit from the use of lift accessories as these products increase the flexibility of how the lift can be used and offer alternate ways to move people from one spot to another while increasing comfort and safety.
We offer a variety of accessory products and parts to replace those that are worn or broken to extend the life and use of the lift.
How Do I Know What Lift Accessories I Need?
Patient Lift Slings
The most common lift accessory patients require are sling devices so that caregivers can lift the patient out of the bed to chairs, or to be bathed, toileted and weighed. The type of sling you want to choose is based on the type of lift transfer you want the patient to do, always keeping safety in mind and the person’s ability to help. Slings usually have a weight capacity of up to 600 pounds.
The most mobile and active patient will be able to use the Molift RgoSling StandUp sling to rise from sitting to standing. Soft leg supports can give patients additional comfort to protect sensitive inner thigh areas in slings with divided leg supports.
The Molift Fabric Stretcher Sling is used to move patients who must stay vertical and may also be sedated or unconscious. This sling lifts the recumbent person up from 8 separate lift points for a more secure transfer.
The Molift Patient Scoop Stretcher can be placed under a patient without having to turn them, which may be necessary if the person is comatose or has multiple fractures. It provides a flat semi-rigid base.
Patient Lift Weigh Scales
The second most common lift accessory is a weighing scale.
Weighing patients regularly enables monitoring of fluid balance in cardiac patients, weight loss and gain in patients on special diets, and to assist in medication dosing for drugs that are based on body weight.
Scales usually have a weight capacity up to 600 pounds or 272 kilograms and are battery operated. Some scales can be operated during a transfer, which allows the user to complete both activities at once. The scales have digital displays that show both pound and kilogram weights and most have a lock-in feature to retain the reading in its memory.
Patient Lift Replacement Parts
Fortunately, there are numerous replacement parts to change out mechanisms in the lift that may no longer be functioning or those that may not be safe, or to upgrade a lift from manual hydraulic to electric battery power.
Replacement parts include: drive replacement chains for the slings, various types of batteries, sling straps, mast and boom pump assemblies and hydraulic pumps. On electric models, the actuator that controls and stabilizes the boom can be replaced. Directions and diagrams are supplied to assist in making the replacement.
In addition, a portable airflow compressor can be purchased as a replacement or as a separate purchase to inflate ELK and Camel pneumatic lift equipment.
