The Kaye Dynamic Pediatric Stander is a multi-positional standing aid with 360 degrees of movement within the base of support so children can experience varying degrees of small movement while safety supported in an upright standing position. The unique stander is an important innovation for children who have not developed adequate balance, weight shifting, or postural control to stand or walk unaided. It can be locked in the upright position when a stable position is needed, such as transferring into and out of the stander. The tray comes as a standard feature and holds materials and activities.
The excursion of movement of the stander is adjusted with a spring loaded crank, granting greater control over initiating movement and making children feel safer and more in control during use. This allows them to experience limited movement within their base of support and increase their range of movement as they develop confidence. The resistance against movement can also be adjusted so children of many ages, sizes and weight can work on postural control. Sway can also be damped down, allowing children to pair postural control with function and experience the typical weight shifts that accompany reaching, manipulation, speech, eating and self care activities. This helps these movements feel less stiff and makes them easier to perform. Children can independently activate weight shifting by pushing into the base with their feet as they moved away from the vertical position and bring themselves back to midline, allowing them to develop a sense of midline in the vertical position. Movement in standing has a wide range of health benefits and developmental advantages, including better circulation in the feet and legs, reduction in fatigue, and less blanching or flushing of the skin.
