Product Overview:

The Kaltostat Calcium-Sodium Alginate Dressing is made of a mixture of calcium and sodium fibers. The calcium in these wound packing materials is made to swell and fill the cavity of a wound, while the sodium alginate dissolves and forms a moist gel layer to nurture damaged tissue. A reliable alternative to cotton-based gauze, these algae-based ropes can be left in wounds for longer periods of time than most standard packing materials, letting your body focus on healing without interruption. Due to hygiene concerns, this product is nonreturnable.

More Information

Made from a blend of 80% calcium fibers and 20% sodium fibers, the Kaltostat Alginate Rope combines the best aspects of both types of these alginate dressing to encourage healthy recovery. The calcium based portion of these ropes causes them to swell gently within wounds, provide structure and coverage to the full cavity, and absorbing up to 20 times its own weight in exudate. Meanwhile, the sodium based fibers within the ropes begin to dissolve on contact with the fluids in a wound and form a gel-like substance. This gel provides a seal to the wound, and this will also keep a wound from drying during use, allowing the body a stable balance of moisture to nurture the area through the healing process.

Easily packed, and just-as-easily removed, Kaltostat dressings do not dissipate into wounds, but do not adhere to damaged tissue meaning changing of packing is gentle and trauma free. Alginate dressings by their nature can be left in wounds for extended periods of time, and require changing only every few days or when soaked through. If your wound is infected, it is best to change the packing more regularly.

Sterile, biodegradable, secure, and easy on injuries, these alginate ropes are also used as a readily available, and effective replacement for the standard in the event a patient is allergic to cotton-based packing. Theyre effectively used in numerous types of ulcers, superficial burns, within healing incisions, and open or healing donor sites.

Due to hygiene concerns, this product is nonreturnable. Always refer to your physician for specific instructions and recommendations for packing, changing, and using any wound dressings.
