The seven-ounce plastic vinyl pen or pencil holder helps to provide extra proprioceptive input in the hand and fingers, resulting in extra feedback to the user. This feedback from using the added bulk of the holder and weight allows the user to better feel the writing instrument and the movement of the pen when writing. The extrasensory feedback also allows the user not to grip the holder so tightly, allowing more control and stabilization over uncontrolled movements of the hand and fingers.

People experiencing sensory integration issues or fine motor control in their fingers, hands, or arms can benefit from the larger, textured surface of the holder as well as the extra weight. These improved sensations may increase the user's focus on the task, enhance hand and finger strength and dexterity, help normalize writing speed, and may decrease the force of the grip on the writing instrument.
