Product Overview:

The SOSecure Containment Swim Brief (also known as a swim diaper) was originally designed for adults and teens dealing with incontinence. However, many parents of children with Special Needs have requested that a version for older children be made available. Once you reach a certain size, there are no disposables that will fit. Kids need quality garments, too. No one likes to be self-conscious about having to wear protection, and the SOSecure swim diaper is very discreet as well as effective. The garment should be worn next-to-skin under a swim suit. Some parents prefer to put a diaper pad underneath, but this is not required and is a personal choice. Choose from a quantity of one or two. Please contact us for quotes on bulk orders. Navy blue only.
This product is non-returnable.

More Information

Our design allows for some growing room, so please order the correct size based on the chart below, not any larger. It is important to wear it as snug as possible using the adjustable closures. Although it was made specifically for swimming, it also makes a great cover for disposable or cloth diapers. Considered the best design available, the brief is used by Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and caregivers all over the world. The difference in these styles is mainly in the rise (crotch depth), which dictates how high the garment sits at the waistline. Measure the rise, (see instructions) and then choose which style is closest to your measurement. Adult and plus sizes are sold separately, see options/accessories above.

The SOSecure Containment Swim Briefs for children use a hook and loop closure that allow these Swim Briefs to open like tabbed diapers making them easy to get on or off. Adjusting the Child Swim Briefs to individual needs is made simple. These Child Swim Briefs are discreet and can easily be worn under a swim suit next to the skin. SOSecure Diaper Briefs stretch around the legs and abdomen for a snug and comfortable seal. Machine washable and hung up to dry, SOSecure Child Swim Diapers are reusable briefs that are serviceable for more than one swimming season.

The SOSecure Containment Swim Brief (also known as a swim diaper) is a washable undergarment. This product was reviewed by the National Foundation for Continence and selected for their Resource Guide. For those active people who wish to swim or for people who need to take aquatic therapy, we have developed the SOSecure Swim Brief. It is worn under a swimsuit and when adjusted as snug and as comfortably as possible, provides superior protection and peace of mind. The garment was designed mainly for bowel incontinence, but also provides a certain amount of protection for urinary leakage. No garment is totally watertight, but the SOSecure Swim Brief provides the best protection of any garment you'll find.

The garment is designed to be worn next-to-skin under a swim suit. It is intended for bowel containment, however it will protect a certain amount against urinary leakage. It's difficult to determine just how long because each person has different needs. Our tests showed it would easily contain several cups of water, but if you are uncertain as to how long it will contain urine, please try it at home first. It is important to purchase the right size, and keep it as snug as possible using the adjustable closures. Bear in mind that these are not designed to absorb fluid like a disposable diaper. They are meant for containing--on a temporary basis! Please never allow any user to remain in the water once the incontinence has occurred.

Although it was made specifically for swimming, many customers tell us it makes a great cover for disposable or cloth diapers. This does not create a waterproof barrier, and should not be used as such.

Putting the swim briefs on is easy! Loosely fasten one side of the containment swim brief and leave the other open. Pull on garment and snugly fasten the opened side around the child's waist then adjust the first side to ensure a proper fit.

Also known as swim nappies, undergarments for swimming and Special Needs swim diapers. Because this product touches the skin, no returns are allowed for hygienic reasons. Sizing issues cannot qualify for a refund or exchange due to this. All sizing information is listed for your convenience below.

SOSecure Containment Child Swim Diapers Picture To Measure Rise, begin about 1 inch below the belly button, measure down through legs, and up to the position on the back that matches the starting position on the front.  Then, based on the larger of waist/hip measurement, choose the style that comes closest to your own rise measurement.

HOW TO CHOOSE BETWEEN YOUTH

OR CHILD STYLE

If a child is very slim and tall, you probably want a Youth to get the highest rise. If they are short and stocky, you may wish a Child style.  Measure their rise, and choose the style that is closest. For example, if the person's waist is 26 and the hip is 29, then 29" is  the larger of the two measurements, so use that to determine size. You can see in the chart below that a 29" measurement would be either a Child XL or a Youth M.  To choose between these 2 styles, measure the rise of the person, then pick the style that is closest to this rise measurement, for the best fit.

Size XS S M L XL 2XL
Waist/Hip Child 17-19" 20-21" 22-24" 25-27" 28-30" 31-33"
Rise Child 19 1/2" 20 1/4" 21" 22" 23" 23"
Waist/Hip Youth 22-24" 25-28" 29-32" 33-36" 37-40" N/A
Rise Youth 25" 25 3/4" 26 1/2" 27 1/2" 28 1/2" N/A

Facts About Incontinence

You are not alone!   Incontinence affects 5-7% of all ages of the world population.  In older persons, this increases to 10% for combined fecal/urinary incontinence.
Often considered a "taboo" subject, individuals can be reluctant to disclose their incontinence, even when speaking with their own doctorSo, it is often quite difficult to shop for the products that can give you the discreet protection that you need and allow persons with this common problem to enjoy an active life.
Incontinence can be caused by a multitude of reasons. IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), childbirth, prostate problems, obesity, and aging are a few.  Neither urinary incontinence nor fecal incontinence is a single disease. Rather they are symptoms of many different conditions.  For more information on causes of incontinence, as well as tips on dealing with all types of incontinence, we recommend visiting the National Association For Continence website, a not-for-profit organization that provides valuable information.

PLEASE NOTE:
You should never swim when you are experiencing diarrhea.  This can be a sign of sickness, which may spread to others by contaminating the water. Diarrhea is the most common source of WBI (Water Born Illness). Crypto (krip-toe), short for Cryptosporidium, is a germ that causes diarrhea. This germ is found in the fecal matter of a person who has been infected by Crypto. It has a tough outer shell that allows it to survive for a long time in the environment. It can survive for days, even in properly chlorinated pools. The disease caused by infection with the germ Crypto is called cryptosporidiosis. Crypto is microscopic, so it can’t be seen with the naked eye.

Swimming with an Ostomy
Most Ostomates are able to swim without using a swim diaper. Some still choose to use the SOSecure undergarment, for added security and to prevent against unexpected leakage.  Clients with stomas can take precautions to minimize the likelihood of having a leak. After changing the flange, at least several hours (preferably overnight) should lapse before engaging in aquatic activities. This allows adequate adherence of the adhesive substance to the skin. The flange can be reinforced with waterproof tape if the client is still concerned about leakage.  Wearing a second swim suit or a tighter undergarment such as a swim diaper can help hold the appliance in place and reduce chance of it falling off. However, the undergarment should not be tight enough to restrict flow of effluent into the bag (Ostomy Association of Southwestern Indiana,2006).
