The Smart Pegboard by Neofect uses cutting edge technology applied to a time-tested rehabilitation therapy to deliver a multi-sensory experience for patients during functional and cognitive rehabilitation. The device provides audio and visual feedback which helps the user learn more quickly, and the software recognizes when the correct objects are placed in the correct places and adapts the game to their level of difficulty. As ongoing progress is measured, the game parameters are adjusted to keep the user challenged and engaged.
The Smart Pegboard is used primarily by patients with diagnoses including stroke, brain injury, cerebral palsy, neurodegenerative disease, and spinal cord injury. However, it has also proven to be successful in range-of-motion and strengthening therapy for patients with orthopedic conditions and burns.
This device updates the traditional rehabilitation technique of using a pegboard to improve the effectiveness of grasp, dexterity, and hand-eye coordination by requiring patients to repeatedly place wooden pegs into a large board. The digital version has three boards, including mixed shapes and pinch boards. They light up with 63 high-brightness LED bulbs, and have 30 games that utilize differing light and sound effects based on whether a user wins or loses a game. This repetition helps build brain pathways using different functional and cognitive capabilities and makes the therapy fun and engaging. On top of the physical benefits, the Smart Pegboard games also improve concentration, memory, and problem-solving.
