Every child comes with his or her own individual needs, and unfortunately, in larger childcare settings, it can be hard to meet these needs or make accommodations that cater specifically to each childs individual needs. The Rifton Compass Chair is here to provide an adjustable solution to one of the most basic requirements for successful learning: sitting still.
Unlike standardized plastic chairs that are both uncomfortable to sit in an only suited for a small range of child sizes, the Rifton Compass Chair is ergonomically curved to provide optimal support in both the spine and legs and is available in a variety of sizes to accommodate children of all ages. The legs of the Compass Chair are all independently adjustable, meaning not only can the chairs height be altered to suit the length of the students legs, but the chair can also be put at a slight recline or forward-lean by having one pair of legs longer than the other.
For children with Autism-Spectrum Disorder or other sensitivities, the curved sides of the seat provide subtle lateral support that can be both comforting and encouraging while limiting some sensory input to reduce the chances of becoming overwhelmed. The higher-sitting arm rests can help children more confidently lower down into or rise up out of the chair, granting them more independence, and also add to the sense of security with defined sensory boundaries.
The lightweight, plastic construction is designed for easy portability, accommodating the ever-changing layout of the classroom. The back and seat of the chair feature light texturing designed to provide more traction and prevent slipping without being overwhelming to students with touch sensitivities; the surface wipes clean for easy sanitation at the end of the day. Optional stability feet are available that attach quickly and easily to the back legs of the chair, holding the chair steady for children who are more active or liable to try and rock back and forth in their chair in sensory or movement seeking behaviors. Seatbelts are also available that help secure the child into the chair, both for caregiver peace of mind and an added sense of safety for the child, especially those who benefit from added sensory boundaries.
