Can the swing arm be locked shut overnight or does it free move if kicked during the night?

Answer: The swiveling arm does not lock.

The rubber foot can make moving the arm difficult so we added the ability to raise it off the ground to make it easier to swivel the arm back and forth.

Once the arm is placed back in the lower position the rubber foot should grip the floor to ensure it doesn't move, especially when an individual is putting downward force on the arm.
