What is a Utility Cart?
A utility cart is a shelving unit on wheels designed to carry tools, equipment, supplies, or any other item that can fit on it. It is useful for doctor’s offices, hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and rehabilitation facilities. It may also be referred to as a tool cart. A utility cart generally has edges on each shelf so items do not fall off, a pushing handle on one or both ends, and wheels that swivel. It can be made from plastic or stainless steel, or a combination of the two. Some have power strips built onto them to be utilized with electrical equipment, such as EKG machines or audio-visual equipment. Others may have a tray built into the cart to contain supplies more discreetly. A utility cart can have only 2 shelves or many shelves, depending on the specific needs of the facility. Other carts can be fully enclosed and may even have a lock to keep important documents or medications safe. Some utility carts only carry bins with lids so each bin is removable for easier applications.
What is a Folding Utility Cart?
A folding utility cart is a collapsible hand cart made for stacking and transporting items. Many different items can be placed on a utility cart, from regular shaped boxes to irregular shaped items, both small and large. A folding utility cart normally has a metal frame that is open on all sides, and wheels to make it easier to move. It also contains wire baskets which can carry all sizes of supplies so small items do not fall through. The baskets typically are removable in order for an entire grouping of supplies to be delivered to one location or department. Since a folding utility cart is made up of a hollow metal frame with wheels, it is lightweight and easy to roll along the floor.
What is a Linen Cart?
A linen cart makes transporting linens to and from the laundry area easier and faster. It is available in many styles and sizes, depending on the requirements. A linen cart may be a plastic bin on wheels, or it may be a rolling multi-level shelf unit, either plastic or metal. Some carts have canvas bags dividing it into sections, while others may also have canvas covering the entire unit to keep it clean. The canvas can have an elasticized edge to maintain a tight protective layer.
