Inflatable Inner Tube Barrel Kit

Because the Inflatable Inner Tube Barrel provides opportunities for exposure to vestibular and proprioceptive input, the therapy equipment works well in exercise-based occupational therapy programs to treat Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), ADHD, and autism. The Barrel can be used with single or multiple clients simultaneously to encourage socialization. With a circular design and a cut-out middle, the client can climb inside or on top of the barrel, improving balance reactions. The unstable surface causes clients to address their postural reactions to situations where balance may be challenged. Using the Inflatable Barrel during therapy helps improve motor planning skills, and adding movement while the child is on or inside the barrel exposes the client to vestibular input that helps regulate over or understimulated clients to a more calm and focused state.

When a client uses hard work skills to move and climb around and inside of the barrel, they are being exposed to proprioceptive input that helps the client understand body awareness. For deep pressure therapy, the therapist can have the child lie down on the floor and roll over the trunk. The therapy barrel can be turned over and filled with therapy balls for proprioceptive and tactile stimulation. It can also be used as a quiet space for reading and soothing overstimulated children who may be at risk of melting down.
