Climbing for Handwriting
Surprisingly, climbing on monkey bars is one of the best ways that teachers, parents, and therapists can facilitate the development of handwriting skills. There are more than 60 combined muscles in the hands, along with ligaments, tendons and dozens of bones. Starting with the grasping reflex that babies display early, and progressing to the pincer grip, where the forefinger and thumb are used together simultaneously, developing hands become more deliberate and controlled throughout growth.
Writing requires proper development of motor skills. To write, the upper body must be able to support itself in an upright position and muscles in the shoulder have to be strong enough to control the weight of the arm and rotate freely with the writing movement. The upper and lower arm, as well as the wrist and fingers, must also be strong to write.
Brachiating
Brachiating, also called arm swinging, helps develop upper arm and shoulder strength. Swinging, hanging, and climbing are evolved movements that aren't encouraged in modern times. These movements are effective in strengthening the upper body and core muscles, the same muscles needed for the development of fine motor skills. Brachiating helps also develop the flexibility and strength needed to rotate the shoulders, elbows, wrist, and fingers.
Half Moon Climbers Playground Equipment Benefits
Brachiating on SportsPlay's Half Moon Climbers Playground Equipment not only builds flexibility, strength, and coordination, but it also intuitively teaches children about the proprioception of their own body, so they understand their body's reaction to weight, pressure, and resistance. The playground climbing equipment features a simple yet functional design that will keep kids busy for hours and works out the whole body. Although the arms and legs are used to climb and swing, muscles in the entire body, such as the abdominals also work. Eye hand coordination and dexterity are challenged as kids figure out how to get from one end of the climber to the next.
Made for children ages 5 to 12, the Half Moon Climbers are constructed from durable powder coated galvanized steel tubing. The Half-Moon Climber with Rungs consists of a one-piece welded frame with ground anchors for in-ground mounting. Choose from a variety of colors. With its sturdy design, the posts won't bend or warp and powder coated paint finish keeps the structure looking good year after year. Half Moon Climbers Playground Equipment provides hours of safe and fun climbing.
