Ultra Pure Fish Oil is formulated to provide a higher concentration of EPA and DHA per softgel. Fish oil provides protection and maintenance of the normal function, fluidity and health of cell membranes. The essential fats EPA and DHA help maintain and support soft tissue and connective tissue. Fish oil helps promote cartilage and joint function and relieves mild mood changes and cramps associated with the menstrual cycle. Fish oil helps maintain platelet aggregation levels that are already in the normal range. Ultra Pure Fish Oil softgels have a pleasant natural lemon flavor. Fish oil is available in triglyceride (TG) or ethyl ester (EE) form. Clinical trials have not shown one particular form better at raising serum EPA/DHA levels. In fact, most clinical studies use the EE form.
Fish oil in its natural state is in the triglyceride form. Fish oil is converted from TG to EE to purify the oil. Once in the EE form, it is molecularly distilled to remove contaminants such as heavy metals, dioxins and PCB's, and to concentrate the EPA/DHA levels.
Once molecular distillation is completed, there is an option to leave the oil in free form, attached to an ethanol alcohol backbone (EE form) or reattach to a glycerol backbone (TG form). The process to convert fish oil EEs back to TGs adds additional cost. Manufacturers make this conversion to the TG form to increase bioavailability. However, claims that the TG form is better absorbed can be misleading. Research has shown that the TG form may be better absorbed over a one day period, but this difference in absorption disappears when studies compare the TG to the EE form over two weeks or more.
