Product Overview:

The Baseline Personal Monofilament is a discrete, portable tool for checking changes in neurological status. Most often, they are used in monofilament tests to evaluate potential peripheral neuropathy in patients with diabetes, but these personal monofilaments can also be used for various neurological status testing. The simple design of Baseline monofilaments makes the testing process quick and easy, and each monofilament is disposable after one use.

More Information

Personal monofilaments are ideal for diabetic patients who need to frequently test themselves for potential development of peripheral neuropathy. These small but essential devices allow patients to either test themselves or have a friend or family member test them for changes in sensation along the bottoms of the feet in between doctor™s visits, so as to catch any potential development or loss of sensation as early as possible. Neuropathy can develop at any time and, if not tested for, can go unnoticed until other injuries or ulcers appear.

The small size of these monofilaments makes them extremely portable and convenient to use regardless of the patient™s schedule and travel plans. Neuropathy testing using personal monofilaments can be done by the individual patient or by a friend or family member, and takes very little time to perform and record the results.

The Baseline Personal Monofilament is equipped with a medical-grade monofilament that applies the standard 10mg of pressure and mimics the tools used for testing in a clinical setting. Each monofilament is good for one test, which consists of four to eight test points on each foot, depending on individual recommendations from physicians.

The Baseline monofilament line comes in three different pressure strengths when applied to the point of flexion: 1mg, 10mgs, and 75mgs. These options allow for patients to customize their neuropathy testing as directed by their physician, making testing more accurate. The medical standard for detection of loss of protective sensation in the foot is 10mg.

Beyond peripheral neuropathy in diabetic patients, these filaments can be used in similar tests to measure changes in sensation and potential nerve impairment.
