Handicare's Limb Support Band Sling enables easy access to patients by properly positioning body sections or limbs for increased caregiver convenience. This multipurpose tool features a simple construction that provides convenience in all applications. It can be used to lift and support limbs such as the hands, arms, legs, and feet for easier dressing changes or for improved access during surgical procedures. For added convenience, the band sling can be placed under the hips for a slight pelvic bridge position or under the shoulder to elevate the torso and enable better access to the head and scalp. It may also be used to turn patients for improved positioning.
The band sling is not for every patient and is only ideal for those who have a good degree of upper body strength and trunk control, as well as good cognition and cooperation. Each patient should be assessed by a health care professional prior to the use of this system during lifting and transfers. To reduce skin irritation, the band sling should be folded in thirds or in half such that the strap is underneath the sling during application. Once the sling is in place, the folded portion can be removed gently.
In order to accommodate larger limbs or specific techniques, two band slings may be used in conjunction. This may require that the slings be moved during the procedure, but it does provide greater support.
