The Auto Therm 390 Shortwave Diathermy Unit uses a pulsed (100W) or continuous (200W) shortwave diathermy to produce comforting heat for larger muscle areas. Ultrasound is usually very effective for treating smaller, specific areas, whereas diathermy treats a much larger surface area and penetrates relatively deeper. The lightweight, standard unit is portable and uses soft-rubber capacitive pads. For deeper penetration with inductive coil diathermy, choose the Inductive Coil Package.
Each Auto Therm 390 Shortwave Diathermy Unit includes 2 4.7" x 7.1" soft rubber plate capacitive applicators with flexible cables, six felt spacers, two cloth covers, two 48" elastic hook-and-loop straps, hospital grade detachable power cord, and instructions.
Choose from the 390 or the 390x. Both units are the same, but the 390 is the portable version that uses rubber plate capacitive electrodes. The 390x is the full version that includes the unit, treatment cart, arm, and coil induction drum applicator. The capacitive applicators are used for shallow penetration, while the induction drum is used for deep penetration.
With today's technology and safety requirements, diathermy does not have to be isolated. When using the continuous mode, you should be concerned about metal objects in and on the body when using diathermy. Metal has the tendency to heat up the surrounding area. In pulsed mode, the unit does not have the capability to heat metal. It is recommended that clothing be removed around the treatment area and use a terry cloth towel directly on the skin. The drum can then be placed directly on the towel. Pulsed diathermy works like a pulsed ultrasound, giving the mechanical effects of diathermy without the thermal properties. Diathermy can be an unattended modality that allows the clinician to attend to other patients while the treatment is running.
Non-professional sales in the US require a prescription. Diathermy is reimbursed and has its own cpt code.
