Sonia Story

Sonia is a teacher of neurodevelopmental movement programs for overcoming learning, behavioral, physical and emotional challenges. She teaches and inspires people of all ages to learn more about enhancing effectiveness through movement and play.

In July of 2006, Sonia completed the 200 plus hours of coursework and field practice required to be certified as a Brain Gym Instructor and Consultant, and she created the Brain and Sensory Foundations Training course, (formerly named Neurodevelopmental Movement Training). This course offers effective, movements for maturing the brain and integrating primitive and postural reflexes. Adults and children report improvement in learning skills, posture, stamina, emotional and physical balance, focus, social skills, and the ability to release stress.

Since then, Sonia has completed over 50 different courses and training programs in neurodevelopmental movement and related fields including Rhythmic Movement, Neuro-Sensory-Motor Reflex Integration, Facial, Oral, Communication, & Fear Paralysis Reflexes, and Neuroplasticity for Children.

  • Sep. 2008 - Awarded contract for Special Topics Training for Foster Parents through the Washington Department of Social and Health Services.
  • Oct. 2009 - WAEYC Conference Washington Association for the Education of Young Children Presenter, "New Hope for ADD/ADHD."
  • Feb. 2011 - KAEYC Kitsap Association for the Education of Young Children Presenter, "Neurodevelopmental Movement: New Hope for ADHD and Sensory Integration"
  • June 2011 - Awarded the Washington State Association of Head Start & ECEAP contract for staff training at the Annual Summer Institute at the University of Washington campus in Ellensburg, WA. Co-developed and co-taught the course for early educators titled: "Calm in the Classroom and Ready to Learn: Neurodevelopmental Movement Tools for Early Educators," with co-instructor, Sandra Kipper
  • Dec. 2013 - Awarded the contract from Muckleshoot Early Childhood Education Center, for co-developing and co-teaching the Ready to Learn, Movements to Build Foundational Learning Skills in the Early Childhood Classroom training course. Contract teaching fulfilled in January, 2014.
  • Jan. 2015 - Certified as an AOTA Approved Provider of Continuing Education
  • June 2015 - Awarded the Washington State Association of Head Start & ECEAP contract for staff training at the Annual Summer Institute at the University of Washington campus in Ellensburg, WA.
